Hop Into Spring with a Frog Theme!
With the first day of spring right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to jump into some new seasonal themes! Today’s blog post is all about a toad-ally fun frog theme, featuring engaging books and activities to make your speech therapy sessions both educational and exciting!

Frog Books for Speech Therapy
Books are an excellent tool for mixed groups because they allow you to target a variety of speech and language skills, including:
Answering questions
Vocabulary development
Sequencing and retelling
Making inferences and predictions
Listening comprehension
Reading for details
I have listed some of my favorite frog-themed books below. These books offer engaging stories and rich language opportunities to help your students strengthen their communication skills:
– Jump, Frog, Jump! by Robert Kalan: This story includes the repeated text, “Jump, Frog, Jump!”. This is a great book for practicing sequencing, verbs, and prepositions.
– The Wide-Mouthed Frog by Keith Faulkner: In this book, Frog meets other animals and learns what they eat. This funny pop-up book can be used to address sequencing, describing, and predicting.
– Froggy Learns to Swim by Jonathan London (and all of the other Froggy books!): Froggy is afraid to swim but he overcomes his fears with a little encouragement and a silly song. Children love the sound effects and call-response opportunities in the book. This book is also great for character analysis, making inferences, and sequencing/retelling the steps to swim.
– Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel : A wonderful book that celebrates the power of friendship and what it means to be a friend. Also sparks discussions about perspective taking and problem solving.
– I Don’t Want to be a Frog by Dev Petty : A sweet story about valuing and accepting ourselves the way we are. A great book for celebrating our diversity and comparing/contrasting different animals.

4. Plastic Frog Hoppers: Have plastic frog hoppers jump onto stimulus cards or pair with the frog hop lily pads.
5. Wind up Frogs: Add some fun to your speech therapy sessions with wind up frogs. If you use a tray, the frogs will stay on the table and you can have them move around and hop onto stimulus cards or a frog themed worksheet.
